If you are unhappy with the look of your smile due to one or more missing teeth, now is the time to explore some of your tooth replacement options. Dental implants are offered at Pacific Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center and offer you the tooth replacement you need to fill in your smile. Dental implants can be used for a single tooth, multiple teeth, or they can support a denture or bridge. They are a long-term solution and successful in most cases.
Dental implants consist of a three-part restoration process that includes a post, connector piece, and the fabricated crown. Implants are not removable and are anchored into your jawbone to ensure a sturdy foundation for the crowns.
If you would like to explore the option of dental implants for treatment, now is the time to call our Oakland or San Francisco office. Our oral surgeon will provide you with a consultation!
Benefits of Dental Implants
Patients who have the dental implant procedure performed find that they are happy with their tooth restoration process. There are many benefits one can receive from having dental implants. If you are considering additional options such as full-arch dentures, removable partial dentures, or fixed bridges, you should explore implants more in depth too.
Some of the benefits include:
- Enhanced oral health
- Increased stability
- Ability to eat regular foods and not be on a strict diet
- Beautiful and full smile
Who Is a Good Candidate?
There is no one model of person who is a good candidate for dental implant surgery. There are many considerations that Dr. Kang takes into account when he assesses a patient. You will need to come into our San Francisco or Oakland office to receive a consultation. During this time, your medical records will be reviewed in full, you will have x-rays taken of your mouth, and an oral examination will be conducted.
For candidates to be eligible for dental implants, they must have a good bone density ratio to ensure that the implants will not fail and that the patient will be able to heal.
For all patients to have successful dental implants, they must take care of their oral hygiene. Some implants fail due to little bone and some fail due to poor dental hygiene. You should treat your dental implants the same way you would treat your natural teeth.
Cost of Dental Implants
At Pacific Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center, we work hard to provide you with treatment options that are affordable. We do not believe that you should have to forgo your dental care because you cannot afford it. We do offer you a variety of financial options and we accept most insurance plans too.
The cost of your dental implant procedure will depend on many factors such as the number of teeth that need to be extracted, how many teeth need to be implanted, and the need for any additional procedures such as a bone graft or sinus lift.
While you may have seen advertisements for cheap dental implants, we do NOT advise that you try these, as they may cause more harm than good, especially if they are placed by someone who is not trained in the procedure.
If you are concerned about the cost of dental implants, now is the time to call our Oakland or San Francisco office to talk about your options.
Dental Implant Procedure
Many patients are worried about the dental implant procedure, but there is no reason to be worried. Dr. Brandon Kang is experienced and licensed to perform oral surgical procedures. There is a process that is followed for the procedure and you will find that the steps each do take some time to allow you to heal.
The first step in the process is the surgical part. This is done under anesthesia and happens when Dr. Kang inserts the posts into your jawbone. Once the implants are in place, the gums are stitched together, and you will go through a recovery process that can take anywhere from six months to a year.
Once you have fully recovered and the posts are secure in place, you will receive an abutment, which fuses to the top of the dental implant. The abutment is used to attach the crown to it.
If you are worried that there will be pain associated with the procedure, you do need to know that you may experience mild discomfort for a few days after the procedure. You will not experience pain during the procedure itself, as you will be asleep under anesthesia. Dr. Kang will likely send you home with a prescription for pain relief while you heal.
Recovery time for the dental implants will vary from patient to patient, but you can expect to regain your chewing ability fully in 3 to 6 months. Patients who have the procedure done are often back to their normal social life in just a couple of days.
After-Care Instructions for Dental Implants
You do NOT want to mess with the wound or touch the dental implants. It is important that you leave them alone and it is normal for there to be a metal cap slightly pushing through the gums. You may experience some bleeding over the course of the first 24 hours and this is also normal. If you cannot control the bleeding or find that you continue to bleed after 24 hours, call our office.
Swelling is normal and will occur. If you do have any additional procedures performed on the same day, you may find that swelling is more pronounced. You should apply ice to the area as much as possible for the first 36 hours after your procedure.
