About Dr. Snyder
Susan K. Snyder, D.M.D., M.D. is board certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery and began working as an oral surgeon nearly eleven years ago. Born and raised in Fresno, California, she left California for New York City to study music and the liberal arts. She attended Barnard College of Columbia University, with a focus on political science and music, and cross-registered at Manhattan School of Music for piano studies. She graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Snyder continued her studies at Boston University on a merit scholarship to complete her Doctorate in Dental Medicine, graduating summa cum laude and first in her class. After dental school, she relocated to the beautiful bluegrass country of Lexington, Kentucky for training in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Snyder completed her six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Kentucky, becoming the first woman to complete this training at the University of Kentucky. As part of her training, she completed her medical degree, graduating with distinction, and completed training as an anesthesia resident physician for five months, as well as a general surgery preliminary year. Dr. Snyder worked in a broad-scope oral surgery practice in Long Island, New York as an associate prior to moving to the Bay Area.
Dr. Snyder has a broad interest in oral surgery including dentoalveolar surgery, implantology, tissue regeneration and bone grafting, nerve repair, trauma, benign pathology, temporomandibular joint, and orthognathic surgery. She volunteered regularly at the Lexington Mission Clinic and Remote Area Medical while in residency to provide dental care to underserved residents. She also volunteered with CLAYPA, a cleft lip and palate organization in Mexico.
Dr. Snyder has hospital privileges and takes calls at California Pacific Hospitals in San Francisco. She works with our veterans at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto, one of the largest VA hospitals in the country, where she serves as a staff oral and maxillofacial surgeon and teaches the General Practice Residents in dentistry during their additional training after dental school with an emphasis on medical management, bone grafting, dental implants, and exodontia.
Dr. Snyder relocated to the Bay Area to be close to family. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, playing the piano, and exploring with her German shepherds.
